Our Story
A shop that keeps weaving,
beyond “graduation.”
It began with a single cup, brewed by an 18-year-old in Beppu. “Weaving people together, one cup at a time” — from a mobile cart to STAND, then ROASTERY. And it continues.
Weaving people together, one cup at a time
Coffee connects people. That very cup is what we call tumugu — to weave.
TUMUGU COFFEE is a house-roasting specialty coffee shop in Beppu, Oita. We run two shops: STAND, right by Beppu Station, and ROASTERY, a roastery café in Yumigahama.
More than simply selling coffee — locals, students and travellers gather around the same cup, conversations are born, and people connect. That is the place we are making in Beppu.
Passing it on to the next generation
Because it is a shop that a student started, it should not depend on one founder — it should be handed on to the next generation. That is what we aim for.
A place where students of APU (Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University) and local people mingle, and where you can think all the way to the sustainability of the producers behind each cup. Through systems and words, we build a shop that carries on.
